Part 2: The Solution

Posted by austinreynolds on March 29, 2009

This is the second and final part in my series entitled “I Want My Games Back.”  Part 1 can be read here.

If you have read part 1, then you know all about the problem and may be wondering how it can be fixed.  The solution is to bring back the 3D platformer.  If you look at the Nintendo 64s best games, most of them are 3D platformers.  Back then 3D platformers were the dominating genre on consoles.  Now, there are hardly any being made, and those that are made are not nearly as good as the old ones.

I am not suggesting that every game should be a single player 3D platformer.  We would still have FPS games and all of those other genres.  It would also be nice if these platformers have an online multiplayer.  The online does not neccesarily have to be platforming.

A good example would be if a new Banjo-Kazooie platformer was made.  The single player would be the platforming that we all remember from Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie.  The online could be vehicle based like Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts.  By doing things in the single player, you would unlock vehicle parts for the multiplayer.

The next idea seems a little far-fetched, but I think it would work.  Nintendo could remake the Nintendo 64 with HD graphics and things like that.  There could also be expansions to the games.  For example, they could remake Super Mario 64 and add new worlds to the game.

If these ideas were put into action, I think could return video games to the glory days of the Nintendo 64.  Sadly, I doubt any of this will actualy happen.

Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage Review

Posted by sid982 on March 29, 2009

Release Date: Already released

Developer: Bethesda

Price: 800 Microsoft points ($10)

Score: 8.5

Operation Anchorage is a group of 4 added missions to Fallout 3. Operation Anchorage costs 800 Microsoft points or $10. You start the missions by picking up a distress message on your Pip-Boy. Getting this message puts a marker on your map which takes you to the outcasts out post. Once there, someone approaches you and remarks about that thing on your arm. You are told to take the elevator down where they explain to you that they have an armory, but the only way the door can be unlocked is by completing a combat simulation ,but only those with a Pip-Boy can use the simulation, but if you should die in the simulation then you die. The simulation takes place during the invasion of Anchorage, Alaska by Communist China and your job is to take it back. The DLC lasts between 2-3 hours but to me it was totally worth it and in the end you get to reap the rewards of that armory and you get the winterized T-51b armor.
